Richard A. Walls
President & CEO
Dr. Walls started his career in the energy business in Canada in the late 1970’s with Shell Canada and has had a distinguished career in both the Canadian and U.S. energy industry over the past 40 years. Dr. Walls is also the President of RAW Energy Ltd., a private holding and investment corporation.
Recently, Dr. Walls was the founder President and CEO of Mapan Energy Ltd., a publicly traded natural gas company which was acquired by Tourmaline Oil Corp. in August 2015. Prior to Mapan, Dr. Walls was the President, CEO and Director of C&C Energia Ltd., a TSX listed oil producing company with assets in Colombia, SA. C&C was acquired by Pacific Rubiales Energy Corp. at the end of 2012 at a value of $610mm.
Dr. Walls was also the Chairman of Fairborne Energy Ltd. (‘Fairborne”), a public Canadian oil and gas company from May 2005 to October 2012 as well as its founder, President and CEO from 2002 to May 2005. Dr. Walls also served as President, CEO and Director of Fairquest Energy Ltd. from 2005 to 2007, a public oil and natural gas company. Prior to Fairborne, he was the founder, President and CEO of Canadian Midstream Services Ltd. (“CMSL”), a private oil and natural gas midstream company with mainly sour gas plants, pipelines, and production facilities in Alberta and British Columbia. CMSL was acquired in May 2001 by Duke Energy Field Services Ltd. (“Duke”) and Dr. Walls served as a Special Advisor to Duke until January 2002.
From early 1993 to November 1998, Dr. Walls was the President, CEO and Director of Pan East Petroleum Corp., a Canadian public oil and gas company which had significant discoveries of sour gas in the Devonian of Alberta. He moved from his beginnings at Shell to Canadian Hunter Exploration Ltd. and from 1983 until 1989, he was the President and CEO of Kentex Oil Corp., a private U.S. natural gas company based in Houston, Texas, and from 1989 to 1993, he was the founder and President of C&W Energy Ltd. In addition to the aforementioned companies and businesses, from 2002 to 2007 Dr. Walls was the Chairman and major shareholder of OXEN Inc., the parent company of the Alberta Watt Exchange (“WattEx”), an electronic electricity exchange located in Calgary, Alberta. OXEN and WattEx were acquired in 2007 by the Toronto Stock Exchange. Over the past 25 years, Dr. Walls has served as a director on a number of both public and private energy companies in Canada.
Dr. Walls earned a B.Sc. in 1971 from Morehead State University in Kentucky, a M.Sc. in 1973 from the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill, N.C. and a Ph.D. in geology in1977 from McGill University in Montreal. Dr. Walls also received an Honorary Doctorate in Science from McGill University in 2013. He established scholarships for undergraduate students at both Morehead and McGill as part of his commitment to furthering education. Dr. Walls is both a Canadian and U.S. citizen and resides in Calgary, Alberta.
Mr. Boyd has had an extensive exploitation and exploration career in the Canadian energy industry over the last 28 years. As a Professional Engineer, Mr. Boyd has held increased levels of responsibilities and exposure to multiple play types throughout Western Canada. Mr. Boyd’s experience includes liquid rich gas, sour gas, shallow gas, coal bed methane, heavy oil and gas storage.
Most recently, Mr. Boyd was the Chief Operating Officer of Mapan Energy Ltd., a publicly traded natural gas company from its inception in January 2014 as a private company, to its acquisition by Tourmaline Oil Corp. in August 2015. Prior to this, Mr. Boyd was the Vice President of the Bighorn Business Unit at Encana Corporation.
Since 2002, Mr. Boyd has held several technical and operational leadership roles at Encana Corporation, the second largest natural gas producer in North America. Mr. Boyd was primarily responsible for advancing the application of horizontal well technology to significantly increase resource recovery in mature producing reservoirs, transition known hydrocarbon accumulations from uneconomic to economic and advance new play concepts. Areas of success have included the multi stack Cretaceous in the liquid rich deep basin of Alberta, advancing the Triassic Montney development from British Columbia to Alberta and capturing a Devonian Granite Wash multiple Tcf gas opportunity. Responsibilities also included the operation of Encana’s three major critical sour gas facilities at Steeprock, Hythe and Sexsmith with sour gas processing capabilities in excess of 600 MMcf/d. Mr. Boyd has been on the forefront of implementing techniques of resource play methodology that involves applying new technology and continuously reducing costs.
From 1990 to 2002 Mr. Boyd held several roles with Alberta Energy Company, the predecessor to Encana Corporation. During this time period Mr. Boyd spent four years working out of the Redcliff Alberta field office, two years working on site as Plant Manager at the AECO C Gas Storage Facility and five years as the Manager of the Western Canada Gas Storage Development Team responsible for the operation and development of AECO C Gas Storage, the largest independent gas storage facility in North America. From 1999 to 2001 Mr. Boyd was the Group Lead Production for the Suffield Heavy Oil team. During this time, the group was successful at increasing production from 15,000 to 30,000 barrels per day in less than one year.
Mr. Boyd earned a B.Sc. in Chemical Engineering at the University of Calgary in 1989. Mr. Boyd is registered as a Professional Engineer with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta.
David Summers Executive Vice President
Mr. Summers is a Profession Engineer with over 36 years of experience in the Oil and Gas industry. His experience includes leadership roles in Production, Operations, Exploration Exploitation, A&D activity, Marketing and Midstream.
Most recently, Mr. Summers was the Chief Operating Officer of MainSail Energy, a private Warburg Pincus backed company looking for opportunities in Canada. Prior to that, Mr. Summers was Chief Operating Officer for Endurance Energy, a 20,000 boe/d private natural gas company which was also backed by Warburg Pincus.
Mr. Summers started his career with Amoco Canada in 1983 and remained there until 1997. He moved through various assignments within the organization which included Property Team Manager for the BC/Wapiti area, Exploration Manager for the BC Foothills, and the Supply and Operations Manager for the Natural Gas Marketing Department.
In 1997, Mr. Summers left Amoco and joined Dr. Walls at Pan East Petroleum Corp. where he was the Chief Operating Officer until the company was sold to Poco Petroleum in 1998. In 1999 he was a founding partner of Canadian Midstream Services Ltd. where he was the Chief Operating Officer. The company’s assets which included sour gas plants, pipelines and production facilities in Alberta and British Columbia were sold to Duke Energy Field Services in May 2001. Upon closing, Mr. Summers moved to Duke where he was the Sr. Executive in Canada until May 2002.
In 2002, Mr. Summers was a founding partner and Chief Operating Officer of Fairborne Energy Ltd. Fairborne started as a private oil and gas company which went public in 2003 and grew to 18,000 boe/d through both organic growth and acquisitions. The company was sold to Tourmaline in 2014.
Mr. Summers holds a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering degree from the University of Saskatchewan and is a member of the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA), the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) and the Canadian Gas Processors Association (CGPA).
Ms. Dugdale is a Chartered Accountant and most recently served as the Chief Financial Officer of Mapan Energy Ltd., a publicly traded natural gas company from its inception in January 2014 as a private company through to its acquisition by Tourmaline Oil Corp. in August 2015. Previously, Ms. Dugdale was the Corporate Controller of C&C Energia Ltd., (“C&C”), a TSX listed oil producing company with assets in Colombia, SA. Ms. Dugdale oversaw all matters of international corporate reporting from November 2010 through the sale of the company in December 2012.
Prior to joining C&C, Ms. Dugdale spent over ten years at ARC Financial Corp., (“ARC”), one of the world's leading energy focused private equity firms, with her most recent role being Vice President and Controller. She was responsible for all financial matters related to the various ARC Energy Funds and partnerships including US and Canadian tax planning and compliance, financial reporting and maintenance, and analysis and reporting of ARC's portfolio information. Ms. Dugdale was a key liaison to the funds varied and numerous investor groups – ensuring they received a wide variety of reporting information for inclusion in their reporting and tax filings.
Ms. Dugdale earned her accounting designation in Alberta while articling at Arthur Andersen. Her education includes a Bachelor of Commerce in Accounting and a Bachelor of Arts in Geography both from the University of Calgary and completion of various levels of the CICA's In-Depth Tax Course. She has over 20 years experience with various aspects of corporate finance and has an array of exposure in managing a breadth of areas within organizations including human resources, information technology, employee training and corporate governance.
Sr. VP & General Counsel
Mr. Kisic has had a multifaceted career over the past 25 years since being admitted to the Law Society of Alberta in 1993. Currently Mr. Kisic is General Counsel in Canada for EDF Trading North America.
Since 1993, Mr. Kisic has served in a legal capacity for several corporations. From 2003 until 2007 he served as General Counsel and Corporate Secretary of OXEN and Alberta Watt Exchange, an electronic electricity trading exchange located in Calgary, Alberta. In 2007-2008, he was an advisor for the Boards of Directors and General Counsel Departments at Centrica and Direct Energy Marketing. In 2008 he was a Vice President and General Counsel in Canada for Lehman Brothers Commodity Services. Mr. Kisic was General Counsel and Corporate Secretary of Fireweed Brewing Corporation from 2003 to 2014.
Mr. Kisic was a Student‐at‐Law with McCarthy Tetrault in 1992‐93 and began his corporate career with Bow Valley Energy as Corporate Solicitor. From 1994‐96 he served as Corporate Counsel for Morrison Petroleum, CGGS Canadian Gas Gathering Systems and Canadian Gas Gathering Systems II and from 1996‐97 was Corporate Counsel and Assistant Corporate Secretary at Viridian‐Agrium. From 1997‐2003 Mr. Kisic was a Vice President, General Counsel as well as Corporate Secretary and a board member for Dynegy Canada. During these years, Mr. Kisic expanded his vast legal expertise to include extensive knowledge of sour gas assets and union experience.
Mr. Kisic served as the General Counsel of Mapan Energy Ltd., from its inception in January 2014 through to its acquisition by Tourmaline Oil Corp. in August 2015. Mr. Kisic currently is an acting director of Escarpment Energy Ltd. and Escarpment Energy USA Corporation since their incorporation in 2013 and 2014.
Mr. Kisic earned a Honors B.Sc. in Mathematics at the University of Alberta in 1988 and an LL.B from the University of Alberta in 1992. He was admitted to the Bar in Alberta in 1993. Mr. Kisic is a Canadian citizen and resides in Calgary, Alberta.
Christopher J. LeGallais
VP Business Relations
Mr. LeGallais has had an extensive career, spanning 40 years, working in various technical, commercial and corporate roles in the Canadian and Global Energy Industries.
Most recently, Mr. LeGallais was Corporate Vice President Investor Relations and Business Advisory for Pacific Rubiales Energy Corp, a leading O&G Producer based in Colombia, South America.
From 1998 to 2011, Mr. LeGallais held several different senior executive roles at Talisman Energy Inc., a major Canadian based Global O&G Producer. First as Vice President Exploration Business Development where he managed planning, capital accounting and risk & reserve functions for Talisman's global exploration. Then later as Vice President Investor Relations and responsible for building an award winning investor relations function.
Prior to Talisman, Mr. LeGallais worked in various technical and commercial roles in a number of successful junior Canadian O&G start-ups; including Senior Exploration Geologist at Paramount Resources Limited, Vice President Exploration at OGY Petroleum Ltd., and Manager Business Development at Pan East Petroleum Corp.
Throughout his earlier career Mr. LeGallais worked as an Exploration and Development Geologist at Chevron Resources Canada Ltd., and as Geologist and Exploration Project Manager with the French Atomic Energy Agency engaged in global coal and uranium exploration and development.
Mr. LeGallais earned a B.Sc. (Hon.) in Geological Sciences in 1977 and an M.Sc. Geology in 1983 from McGill University in Montreal. Mr. LeGallais is registered as a Professional Geologist with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta.
Mr. Pyke is a professional Landman with over 40 years of experience in the Oil and Gas Industry. His experience includes responsibility for Land Management, Acquisitions and Divestments, which include Provincial, Federal, Freehold and First Nations mineral lands throughout Western Canada.
Most recently Mr. Pyke was Vice President of MainSail Energy, a private Warburg Pincus backed company pursuing oil and gas opportunities in Western Canada. Prior to MainSail, Mr. Pyke served as Vice President Land & Contracts at Endurance Energy, a British Columbia focused natural gas producer operating on First Nations traditional lands.
In 1997 Mr. Pyke left AEC Oil & Gas to join Barrington Petroleum as Vice President Land & Contracts, where he stayed until Barrington was acquired by Sunoma Energy in 1998. In 1999 he joined Cigar Oil & Gas where he served as Vice President Land & Contracts. In 2002 Cigar merged with Manhatton Resources forming Pivotal Energy Ltd.
In 2003 Pivotal Energy Ltd. was merged with Fairborne Energy, where Mr. Pyke served as Vice President Land & Contracts joining Mr. Summers the Chief Operating Officer until the sale of Fairborne to Tourmaline in 2014.
Mr. Pyke Holds a Bachelor of Arts (Economics) from the University of Calgary, is a member of the Canadian Association of Landmen (P.Land), and is a Permanent Land Agent.
Dr. Solano has 10 years of experience in the oil & gas industry as a petroleum geologist. His career has mainly focused on the geological evaluation of medium-heavy oil and low-permeability hydrocarbon reservoirs.
Prior to his role at Paredes Energy, Dr. Solano was an Exploration Consultant at Mapan Energy Ltd., a publicly traded natural gas company, from its inception in January 2014, as a private company, to its acquisition by Tourmaline Oil Corp. in August 2015.
Dr. Solano has extensive knowledge of geological evaluation workflows involving multi-scale analysis of rock properties, clastic depositional systems, and geo-cellular modeling. He has participated in multiple evaluation and appraisal analysis involving the majority of unconventional plays in the western Canadian sedimentary basin.
Dr. Solano began his career in Venezuela, where he worked as a reservoir and production geologist for Petróleos de Venezuela, S.A. and Suelopetrol. He later moved to Mexico were he worked as a consulting geologist at Halliburton and provided specialized services to offshore Pemex assets in the SE Basin (Gulf of Mexico).
Dr. Solano holds a B.Sc. in Geological Engineering from the Universidad de Oriente in Venezuela, a MSc in Geology from the University of Calgary and a PhD in Geology from the University of Calgary.
Sr. Engineering Consultant
Mr. Shaw has over 30 years of broad experience as an O&G engineer in the petroleum industry. Mr. Shaw is an Evaluation Specialist with a focus on Corporate and Asset Evaluations, Corporate Development, Acquisitions and Divestitures, and Exploitation.
Previously, Mr. Shaw was a Senior Engineering Consultant at Mapan Energy Ltd., a publicly traded natural gas company from its inception in January 2014 as a private company, to its acquisition by Tourmaline Oil Corp. in August 2015.
In recent years, Mr. Shaw has consulted for O&G producers, Investment Banking and Marketing Firms, working on both buy-side and sell-side mandates totalling over $5 billion.
Throughout his earlier career, Mr. Shaw has held roles of increased engineering responsibility with various-sized public O&G producing companies including APF Energy Trust, Northrock Resources Ltd., PetroCanada, Amerada Hess Canada Ltd., and Shell Canada Limited. Mr. Shaw also worked as an Associate Evaluation Engineer at McDaniel & Associates Consultants Ltd., a leading independent O&G evaluation firm.
Mr. Shaw holds a B.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Calgary and is an active member of APEGA.
